Replied by redlee on topic I wish i had never walked past optical express

I was walking through the Trafford centre one day last September 6 months ago, when I thought I would call in and see about getting some new glasses, whilst in the store I was talked into laser eye surgey, during the conversation I asked just two questions will it work and will it hurt ?
answer yes it will work & no it doesn't hurt so I thought great lets go for it.

They advertised £395 per eye, when I was given the 3 options of price it was £750 £950 & £1125 per eye approx. so I don't know where the £395 comes in maybe it costs this much if you don't have anything wrong with your eyes :)

I chose the £950 per eye

I had the surgery a couple of days later all went well I was told to go home and sleep for 4 hrs and all should be fine, well let me tell you when the anaesthetic wore off no way could I sleep I was sat in my garden for hrs with my head in my hands crying with pain which I can only describe as a dart in the eye - pain like nothing I had ever experienced before,

I returned to the shop the next day and told them the pain I was in and my left eye was blood shot and vision was worse than before I had surgery, my right eye was perfect and had no pain, so far as I was concerned something had gone wrong with the left eye but they said this is something that can happen eyes heal differently.

to cut a long story short over the next 6 months I visited the shop over 30 times for several pairs of new glasses test appointments, during this period they lost my old lenses lost new glasses sent wrong glasses and some of the customer service was terrible, one of the worst things of visiting this store is that in the 30ish visits I have had I don't think Ive seen the same person more than 4 times every time seems to be a different member of staff.and to this date had to continue wearing glasses.

on Monday this week they eventually did my surgery again after cancelling previous appointments to do it. the surgeon said he was going to do the surgery and put a temporary contact lens in to help recovery and the next day when I come for my checkup they would remove it.

I returned the next day this time I must stress there was nowhere near the same amount of pain but there was some discomfort, I had my check up I told them my vision was very poor in the left eye the lady said this is normal and she said come back in 6 days, I mentioned the contact lens removal the surgeon had mentioned the previous day, so she said I will check your eye again and was flabbergasted when she said there is no contact lens in the eye.

I have returned to the shop yet again today as my eye site has seemed to have gone worse since I cant see anything clear past 4 feet ,which originally before going into the shop in September I was only struggling with my eye site at about 200yds, they looked at my eye and said this is ok you will now have to wait 6 -8 weeks to see if the surgery has worked and said they would order me a new set of glasses that I can have in about a weeks time, this means I cant drive until I get my new glasses now as my old ones are no good now.

to some up my experience I wish I had carried on walking straight past the shop on that day back in September and would recommend to anyone thinking of using optical express for lazer eye surgery to forget it and you will save a lot of money and probably your eyesite and will be better with glasses.

regards a very unhappy person

The definitive answer is YES!!

Unfortunately most of those who have done so were required to to sign a 'gagging order' aka confidentiality agreement.

However, legal teams for the increasing numbers now suing are being asked by their clients to make sure there is no gagging order so they'll be free to talk about their cases and help others in the future.

Children's authorJan Fearnley won her case without a gagging order being enforced.

The vast majority of claims DO NOT get to court as the defendants will generally make a settlement offer beforehand, as they did with Myra Pridham - who will be publishing her story in detail next year.

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share my story, I can't tell you how much I wish I'd found this site before having my eyes lasered in July last year...as I'm sure everyone does!

I made the huge decision to have my eyes lasered in July last year after having a few consultations over the years and finally plucking up the courage to go ahead with it. I had read about the halo/starburst issues online and specifically asked about this at my 2nd consultation and I was told that the Elite treatment (most expensive) would definitely not cause these issues and that was one of the main benefits of the Elite treatment - my Mum was in the room when I was told this.

It's fair to say I found the actual procedure horrific and through my first eye I genuinely considered not having the 2nd eye done....after the procedure it was all pretty smooth and even a month later I was happy enough and my eye sight was settling nicely - although I had very dry eyes and was going through eye drops like they were going out of fashion.

Fast forward 2 more months and it all started to go pear shaped. I drive an awful lot for my job (1000 miles per week on average) and I noticed that my eyesight was deteriorating and night time driving was becoming very difficult. I went back to the clinic and found out I had prescription back in both eyes and the clinic gave me glasses as I wasn't safe to be driving without them. This was 3 months after the procedure.

Since then I have been seen monthly and my prescription has got worse and the halos/starbursts are making night time driving very difficult. Their plan of action was to wait until the 6 month point and then retreat me - they said the good news is that I have think corneas so I can easily take another couple of procedures....NOT what I wanted to hear!

And that is when I found My Beautiful Eyes and thankfully the support has been amazing - it's a very stressful and upsetting time but would have been SO much worse without the support network available through My Beautiful Eyes. I can't believe I'm in the situation I'm in and am in a worse position than before the procedure - how the 'Management' of the laser eye companies think this is an acceptable situation is beyond me.

If your consultation is being paid for by your 'laser eye' provider, it can hardly be considered as 'independent'.

izzy.7 I am horrified and angry at what this industry has done to your most precious sense. Far too many peoples eyes and lives have been ruined for this scandal (which is of epic proportions) to not be dealt with very soon. Judgement day is approaching fast for these grubby sight ruining businesses.
