Hi, has any one had eye plugs to help with dry eyes? Has it helped?

I believe that you have made the right decision. Even if there is a tiny chance that you could end up like some of the contributors to this Forum it really is not worth the risk.
Please direct David Mungall to this site so he can perhaps comment upon our predicament?

Thank you for your replies, I have decided against enhancement surgery as ive read a lot of bad things, currently been on the phone to David Mungall and asked to be referred to Sheraz Daya in London, to which he replied he doesn't know anyone of that name in London only Jan Venter and for me to see surgeon at my local clinic first! :S

Please please do some serious research before you consider having any more surgery!!!! Many others have undergone "ENHANCEMENTS" and are now worse off myself included!!!!

I would urge you to think very carefully before agreeing to any further surgery.
You will note on the Consent Form that it states, enhancement surgery carries its own risks. In other words they won't guarantee that the enhancement will improve your vision and the complications may worsen.

Hi all, so glad I found this site! I had LASIK eye surgery at optical express September 2012 and have suffered dry eyes & blurryneas since and been on 6 different eye drops with no success, I have had 2 stabilised eye tests and if the same next month ill be put forward for enhancement surgery.

I had Lasik-wavefront intralase and I had dry eyes beforehand. OE knew this from my reports, they noted it and told me to go away for 10 days, not to wear contact lenses and to massage my eye lids etc... and then they should be suitable for the op but it would be up to the surgeon on the day.
Putting my trust in this company I did everything they said and my dryness had gone down a lot due the effort of drops/massages/ resting of the eyes/ gel at night.
What they failed to warn me is that I may have to continue doing this for the rest of my life after the op!

They said as I had dry eyes that it would take 6 months instead of the normal 3 months to fully heal.
3 years later... I still have the same problems but worse - I also have night glare which affects my driving at night which affects my work and my income!

I feel like I've been OE guinea pig for 3 years now. They've given me all sorts of different drops to try, Temporary punctual plugs, 3 month course of antibiotics (which wiped my immune system) Lipiflow, Bandage contact lenses, Restasis, steriod drops... the list goes on...

Its nice to now know I'm not alone on this subject as every time I question OE about this, I get told I am a very 'rare' case and this is not common. I'm just an 'unlucky' one.

After informing the optometrist Giles Turner at Liverpool 1 that I stopped wearing contact lenses due to problems with dry eyes. He duly made a note of such on my medical records, then recommend that I undergo LASEK. The surgeon Faqir Qazi used MMC during the procedure.

No doubt you can see how the cowboys at Optical Express are massively contributing to giving the "eye refractive" business a bad rep. Not saying the other outlets are any better.

I had LASEK.
My OE post op records show that the film tear test result was left blank by the OPTOMETRIST who conducted the initial exam. She obviously used a template which lists every risk, stating that she discussed all risks with me, whether they were relevant to my procedure or not.

She did NOT mention ANY risks.

The Consent Form arrived by mail AFTER I had booked my surgery and paid in full using their interest free credit which CANNOT be cancelled.

On the day of surgery I had NOT signed the consent form. On arrival at the Trafford Centre branch on the day of surgery I explained that I had NOT signed the form because it states that I should sign it AFTER a thorough examination by the the surgeon and a discussion to discuss risks and answer any questions. I was told that I could not be checked in without the form being signed and that I would have plenty of time to discuss things with the surgeon before surgery.

I stupidly signed.

The Optometrist on the day of surgery recorded that I had a poor tear film. This was NOT shared with me. The surgeon briefly looked at my eyes, asked "has someone put drops in your eyes?" I told him the Optometrist and he looked surprised. Then I was ushered into surgery with no explanation of what was going to happen, certainly no thorough examination and definitely no warning that I had a poor tear film that may result in poor healing.

Post op I discovered I had Blepharitis. This was NOT picked up by the OE optom or surgeon.

How about a poll ? I am curious as I have a hypothesis:

1) How many out there with severe dry eye had LASIK ?
2) How many with severe dry eye had LASEK (at any time as a first procedure or enhancement following LASIK) with Mitomycin C ?
3) How many with dry eye were tested preoperatively for dry eye ?
